Description

You

If every single person who has liked you in your lifetime, were to light up on a map, it would create the most glitteringly beautiful network you could imagine.  Throw in the strangers you’ve been kind to, the people you’ve made laugh, or inspired along the way and that star-bright network of you would be an impressive sight to behold. You’re so much more than you think you are. You have done so much more than you realise. You’re trailing a bright pathway that you don’t even know about. What a thing. What a thing indeed.

Yellow

Some people walk into your life with a light that can only be described as yellow infusing the very air around with the silent sound of this will be okay nothing hard can stay we will find a way together , we can reach calmer weather these people, your yellows are sunny, endlessly funny they are warm and safe, a comforting place they’re a light things can grow in their heart they wholly throw in they are cheerleaders for your win and if you have a yellow in this life keep them bright they thrive on giving out light but they fight their own dark too they need a colour beside them to push on through and I think they found a fellow yellow in you.

Friend

Friend What a gift it is in this life to have a friend. The kind on which you can always depend. A friend like you. Who seems to arrive with the glue, right on time. The perfect partner in crime. And if friends grew in nature, you would no doubt be a sunflower. So bright, so full of sunshine-seeking power. storing light for darkest hours. Petals facing the sun. Heart open, ready to run. Always finding the fun. My friend. You have been the laughter when life was empty. You have given me back permission to be. Helped me find the woman I had forgotten to see. I hope I do that for you. I hope I’m always your glue. Here’s to me loving you. My friend. Today. Tomorrow. Until the end. Donna Ashworth

Love Came First

You don’t move on after loss, but you must move with. You must shake hands with grief, welcome her in, for she lives with you now. Pull her a chair at the table and offer her comfort. She is not the monster, you first thought her to be. She is love. And she will walk with you now, stay with you now, peacefully, if you let her. And on the days when your anger is high, remember why she came, remember who she represents. Remember. Grief came to you my friend because love came first. Love came first.

Feathers

I left you a little white feather I placed it right there in your way I wrapped it in love with a message to let you know you’ll be okay I drew you a colourful rainbow It followed your car for a while I made it a beautiful rainbow I hoped it would show me your smile I flew down a beautiful robin It landed right there on your ledge I prayed he would give you the strength to push yourself back from the edge I try every day to remind you that I never did go away the feathers, the rainbows, the robins are my way of trying to stay.

Mum

If I could ribbon-tie the moon and the stars, the oceans and the earth, it would not make a gift worthy of your love. Mum, you have given me the very best start, you made a home within your heart. You showed me what love is. And how to give. Without tearing parts of myself in the process. How to never feel less, than enough. You gave me grace to embrace the smooth and courage to face the rough. When life gets tough, it is you I channel, your voice I hear. Your advice and your wisdom, I carry ever near. And always will. No matter where you are, I will listen to you still. Thank you Mum, for all I have become.

Daughter

I hope you know you are made from the very best of me. Like a glittering disco ball, created from only the finest of my shards, you were created to shine ever bright. To reflect, absorb and radiate pure light. Love was the glue and the final parts of you, were carved by your own hand. May you always understand, you are complete. May you never feel the need to compete. And when you run low, when you don’t know where to go, remember our love knows no bounds. It grows fierce in the deepest of grounds. Daughter, you are never alone. In your heart lives your home. Made from all that boundless love, from which you were grown.

Sister

Sometimes I think my sister and I are the same person broken apart, like those necklace charms you can piece together to make a heart. As one, we are almost opposite; day and night, full moon and bright sunlight. But together we create a unique energy… as though we were always meant to be. Created to exist at the same time. And somehow in the hardest of climbs, our power arrives. Together, our strength seems to multiply. As though magic is made when we connect to each other, a force that could not be, without one another. Sisters, half moon, half sun. Apart we exist, together we become.

Son

What an honour it has been to see you grow. To be the comfort, the safe place, to which you always go. I have long held your growing hand, and will do the very same, from baby, to man. I hope you always understand, my heart is never closed to yours. Sweet boy, you have shown me the beauty in laughter, the joy of watching your happy-ever-after, is my dream. But in those times in between, remember your roots. Pull up your socks and strap your boots, for you are truly treasured. If my love was to be measured. It would take forever. And more. My mothering heart is an endless open door. And you, my son, are the wings on which it soars. Donna Ashworth

Dad

My North-star, always guiding me from wherever you are. Safe and true, I am so very grateful for you. Dad you have built the walls to my home, it’s within your trusted light that my bravery has grown. And even when flown, it is your love that has taught me, I can make it on my own. I am never alone. You planted a compass within my heart, that steers me when life is breaking apart. Your love was the start. Thank you Dad, for being mine. For making this life an adventure to climb. I will hear your wise words, till the end of time.  Donna Ashworth

Granny

A place to go when no other fits, there’s no comfort quite like a Granny, who sits. And listens, with earnest, unwavering care. A Granny has time, like she’s going nowhere. She’s right here, in the moment, with arms soft as air and a laugh full of rainbows and clouds for hair. She knows when you’re sad, you can tell her your dreams, each word that you speak is important, you’re seen. A place to rest when the world is too much and noises, too loud, a granny is such, a gift. When she’s near, you’re never alone. My Gran, dear Granny, you feel just like home.

Family

Family is not always blood, not always traditional and never always easy. Family is anyone who makes you feel at home. And not always those you start life with. Family is a gift we all deserve, and if you don’t have it, you can build it, you can find it. Family exists in many forms, and is often hard to recognise by sight, but always by how it feels. Family is not always pretty and never always easy. But it’s always forgiving and always loving, and if yours is not, you can change that. Family is binding, although sometimes you will feel the need to fly free from that knot. And that’s ok. But always remember the way home. It’s not a place, it’s a feeling. And the map is in your soul and in your heart. Family is not always blood, not always traditional but it’s always love. That’s the only criteria to be met.
