YOU DON’T JUST LOSE SOMEONE ONCE

You lose them over and over,
sometimes in the same day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realisation hits home,
they are gone.
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.
Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realise,
they are gone,
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,
for a lifetime.

UNSTOPPABLE

UNSTOPPABLE Unstoppable, they called her. But I saw her stop.I saw her stop many times. Sometimes,I thought she had stopped for good. But no,she always found a way to resurrect.Rise again. Not the same, never the same. Each time a little more determined, and a little less...

THE AFTER PARTY PEOPLE

Anyone can fill a room full of glittering people. Announce a party, send out invitations, bring food, wine, music and the promise of fun, they will come. But it is the after-party people you must treasure in this life. The ones who stay to help clear away. The ones...

TO MY BOY

TO MY BOY The love a mother has for her son, is like a beautiful black-hole. It is all-consuming, never-ending and mightier than us. Women know one another by instinct, you see, but when a woman creates a boy, something else, something quite magical, happens. I hope I...

DEAR DAUGHTER

DEAR DAUGHTER I hope with all my heart that I showed you the real me. That I didn’t pretend I had it all together, or that life was not hard. I hope I gave you the belief of you, in your core. That I loved you enough, albeit messily, to code a blueprint for life, to...

GOOD

GOOD Most people are good. Most people kiss their pets goodbye and read just one more bedtime story to their children. Most people visit their grandparents even when they have no time and stop by to check on quiet friends, after a day too long and draining. Most...

THE GREYS THE WRINKLES

THE GREYS, THE WRINKLES The greys, the dimples, the rolls, the wrinkles,
Don’t strip you of your grace.
The lines, the weight, the clothes that pinch,
Don’t steal light from your face. If you could see what I can see,
Your world would open wide.
The way your smile...

YOU’RE THE GHOST

YOU'RE THE GHOST There’s a part of the grieving process, where your soul kind of leaves your body too.As though it’s off searching for the one you lost, somewhere in the ether. You walk around, doing all the right things, putting one foot in front of the other,living,but...

ANGELS

ANGELS I like to think angels pull souls from their bodies, before pain and tragedy strike. Wrapping them in their loving arms, pressing their eyes and ears against soft wing, so they see no evil, hear no evil and know no earthly suffering. Only love, only safety,...
